This September British designer Lee Broom will once again completely transform his East London studio during the London Design Festival for what is becoming a studio tradition. The space will be unrecognisable from the year before for this unique event entitled 'The Crystal Bulb Shop', a general store complete with sawdust floor, mahogany counter and a shopkeeper. The Crystal Bulb Shop will be a contemporary take on a general store with a surreal twist. Old shop fittings are juxtaposed with over 200 Crystal Bulbs suspended from the ceiling. Visitors will also be given a unique insight into how the product is manufactured through a short film on the making of the bulb in the Cumbria Crystal factory. Following the hugely successful launch of Crystal Bulb at Lee Broom’s first, Milan solo exhibition Public House at the Salone del Mobile this April, it is set to become one of the designer’s most popular products. Taking inspiration from the delicate craftsmanship of crystal cutting, the Crystal Bulb combines industrial influences with decorative qualities, transforming the everyday light bulb into an ornamental light fitting.
“Each year the London Design Festival provides a great opportunity for me to completely transform my studio and showroom. I’m particularly excited to see my vision of the Crystal Bulb Shop come to life and look forward to opening the doors to the public and design community”, Lee Broom.
The Crystal Bulb will be available to buy at the Crystal Bulb Shop for a special London Design Festival price of £90.
